Rockin’ Roots Events is proud to bring a true legend of the scene to the coast. On Sunday, 26th April, join us at The East Quay Venue Whitstable for an exclusive appearance by the John Verity Band.
John Verity is one of the most compelling performers on the blues-rock circuit today, having honed his craft over more than 60 years at every level of the business. Born in West Yorkshire, he cut his teeth on the vibrant northern club scene before moving to Florida, where he opened for Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Mountain. Back in the UK, he stepped into a very different spotlight as frontman of Argent — the band behind the enduring classic Hold Your Head Up. When Argent disbanded, John immersed himself in studio life, producing, recording, and guesting with Ringo Starr, The Zombies, Smokie, Motörhead, and Saxon, among many others.
Live performance has always been John Verity’s true north — the studio could only hold him so long. Having spent years behind the glass working with some of rock’s biggest names, the pull of the stage eventually proved irresistible. He returned to the road with his own band and his own material, and what followed has been nothing short of a musical renaissance — drawing devoted long-time fans and a wave of new converts in equal measure. At East Quay Whitstable, you’ll experience exactly why John Verity has been turning heads again on the blues-rock circuit: a vocalist and guitarist of rare quality, in one of Kent’s finest intimate venues.
John Verity has been winning over critics and audiences for six decades. Here’s what they’ve had to say:
🎸 “One of rock’s real national treasures” — David Randall, music journalist
A verdict that speaks for itself — and one that comes from someone who has covered rock and blues at the highest level for decades.
🎸 “A beautifully crafted back to basics session” — Blues in Britain, September 2022
The UK’s leading blues publication on his recent acoustic work — proof that the craft is as sharp as it ever was.
🎸 “Still in mighty fine voice — strong deliveries with a deceptively high upper range. It’s his prowess with his Fret-King Corona signature guitar that truly does the talking” — Live review
He has his own signature guitar for a reason. When you hear it live, you’ll know exactly what this reviewer meant.
🎸 “You are left under no illusion that you are in the hands of a proper musician and vocalist who would have no problem filling a stadium, packing out any club and bringing a festival audience to their feet. Go see him.” — Live review
🎸 “The John Verity Band absolutely raised the roof last time they appeared here” — Venue review
Six decades in, the verdict is unanimous. Sunday 26th April, East Quay Whitstable — be there.
Located on the Whitstable harbor front, East Quay Venue provides the ultimate atmospheric backdrop for a legendary performer like John Verity.
