One of the UK’s finest roots musicians brings his bottleneck slide guitar, soulful voice and three decades of songs to The Oast for an intimate spring night of Americana, blues and folk — the kind of show where you can hear every note.

About Martin Harley

Hailed as a “slide guitar master” by Roots Magazine, Martin Harley blends Americana, blues and folk into something entirely his own. For three decades he has captivated audiences across the UK and beyond, recording acclaimed albums in Texas, Nashville and Wales and earning a reputation as one of the country’s top roots musicians.

His sold-out shows at London’s Union Chapel and appearances at Glastonbury and the Royal Albert Hall show what a commanding live performer he is. His music has featured on TV in The Vampire Diaries and Banshee and live on PBS’s Music City Roots, he has collaborated with Dobro legend Jerry Douglas and Grammy winner Derek Mixon, and his album Static in the Wires reached #2 on the iTunes Blues chart. His latest release, Morning Sun, produced by Nigel Stonier with contributions from Michael Blair, Mark Lewis and Chris (CJ) Hillman, showcases his finest songwriting to date.

About The Show

A Saturday night in spring, a historic room in Rainham and a true master of the slide guitar.

Martin Harley’s live show is all about the songs and the guitar playing: lap slide and bottleneck that can whisper one moment and roar the next, carried by a warm, soulful voice and a storyteller’s ease with an audience. Expect songs from Morning Sun alongside favourites from a catalogue built over three decades, in a room small enough that you’ll catch every detail. Doors open at 7pm and the music starts at 8pm.

“Quite simply a great live act.” — Time Out London

The Oast, Rainham Kent — A Venue With a Story

The Oast is one of Rainham’s most iconic buildings — constructed in the early 1870s by the Wakeley Brothers, it has overlooked Rainham station for over a century. Originally built for drying hops, it was saved from sale in the 1970s and converted into a thriving community centre run entirely by volunteers. That history gives the place a character that purpose-built venues simply can’t manufacture — exposed brickwork, a sense of occasion, and the kind of intimate atmosphere that puts you right in the room with the music.

The venue sits directly adjacent to Rainham Station with parking at the rear — easy to get to, easy to get home from. Please note: The Oast is not the Oast House Theatre — it’s the historic oast building right next to Rainham train station. For a show like this — Martin Harley on a spring Saturday night — it is the perfect setting. There is also plenty of local public car parking nearby.
