Nine Below Zero bring their 50th Anniversary Tour to The Old Brewery Store, Faversham on Saturday 27 February 2027 — and this is one you genuinely cannot afford to miss. Fifty years since Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham started making music together in South East London, they remain one of the most electrifying live acts this country has ever produced. Five decades of rhythm and blues, and they’re still at the very top of their game.
Nine Below Zero formed in 1977 — the same year punk was rewriting the rulebook — and deliberately ignored every word of it. While their contemporaries were tearing everything down, Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham were deep in Chicago blues, John Lee Hooker, and Sonny Boy Williamson. The band they built became one of the most important rhythm and blues acts Britain has ever produced.
Their debut, Live at the Marquee (1980), announced them to the world. Their 1981 album Don’t Point Your Finger reached number 56 in the British charts. And for their second album, they recruited legendary producer Glyn Johns — the man behind classic records by The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Eagles, and Led Zeppelin — who declared they were “the best he had seen since The Who.” That is not a quote you earn easily.
By 1982, Third Degree was being hailed as their most commercially and artistically successful album. The BBC agreed — Nine Below Zero received unprecedented TV coverage, appearing on The Old Grey Whistle Test, The South Bank Show, and — memorably — performing live in the very first episode of The Young Ones.
Nine Below Zero have spent five decades sharing stages and recording studios with the very best. They toured alongside The Who and The Kinks in 1981. They supported Alexis Korner and Jools Holland in their early years. In 1993 they toured Europe with Sting, who was so taken with the band he signed them to his Pangea Records label. In 1994 they performed at Eric Clapton’s legendary Twelve Nights at the Royal Albert Hall.
Harmonica player Mark Feltham — a giant of his instrument — has played sessions for Oasis, Annie Lennox, Talk Talk, and Rory Gallagher. More recently, Nine Below Zero shared a stage with Status Quo at their farewell show in 2024 and performed across the Dr Feelgood Maximum R&B Tour. In 2016 they played Glastonbury.
